The same people who are responsible for maintaining law and order themselves create deplorable examples of indiscipline. Another recent incident in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, has raised an eyebrow once again about the conduct of uniformed officers. A viral video of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) urinating in a Ticket Collector's (TC) office left social media fuming with rage.

In a display of indiscipline that was shocking, the aforementioned ASI was discovered urinating in the dustbin of the TC office. And to add insult to injury, he even urinated on the tiled floor in a brazen disregard for his surroundings. When the TC office staff confronted him, the officer was reported to have responded incoherently, making incoherent noises.

Signs of intoxication present

Witnesses attest that the ASI was very drunk. His speech was slurred and he was unsteady, further attesting that he had been drinking. In the viral clip, he staggered while he was involved in the degrading act, which has since been roundly condemned.

When the video went viral on social media, netizens did not waste much time to respond with disappointment. Most of them were criticizing the lack of discipline in police officials and demanding strict action so that in the future, such incidents would not take place. The flagrant breach of professional etiquette has humiliated and angered many of the citizens.

Immediate action: ASI suspended

Acting quickly, the Superintendent of Police (SP) suspended accused policeman Mahendra Singh Banjara. As per reports, ASI Banjara had been recently transferred to Gwalior from Guna and was on duty at the police line when the incident took place. His suspension is a stern warning to the others who may be indulging in such activities. This case reminds us of the need for more discipline and accountability within the police force. Though the police are duty-bound to uphold the integrity of their badges, cases such as this erode public confidence and invite severe self-reflection.
