Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Centre to respond on the sequential deaths of cheetahs at the Kuno National Park. The top court said that the deaths of 40% of cheetahs in less than a year do not reflect a good image.Notably, in the past four months, eight cheetahs including three cubs have died at Madhya Pradeshs Kuno National Park, out of these two were reported to have died due to abrasion by radio collars. After this, the apex court has asked the government to not make it a prestige issue, as the deaths of these felines are a matter of concern.Supreme Court hearing issue related to death of cheetahs Adv: This is not adversarialJustice Gavai: Two more deaths last week. Why is this becoming prestige issue Please take some positive steps (to ASG Bhati). Also why were they all put in one place instead of being spread pic.twitter.com/aX2mCKZyLI— Bar & Bench – Live Threads (@lawbarandbench) July 20, 2023ASG Bhati during the argument said that a detailed analysis of each death is being carried out and a status report will have all that. Then this court may decide what further directions are required. After this government agreed to file its response. And the matter is now scheduled for a hearing on August 1.It is to be noted here that now Kuno National Park has 15 cheetahs, four in the enclosure and 11 in the wild.
