Madhya Pradesh: A troubling episode unfolded in Dewas district, Madhya Pradesh, where a case of mistaken identity led to violence against two individuals. On September 12th, residents of Devgarh village, situated within the jurisdiction of the Hatpiplya police station, attacked two men who were begging while disguised as sadhus. The assailants, suspecting the beggars to be Rohingya Muslims, subjected them to physical assault. A video of the assault was subsequently circulated on social media, escalating the situation.

Police investigation underway

Upon the emergence of the viral video, local authorities took immediate action. The police intervened and detained the two men for questioning. Initial inquiries revealed that the men, identified as Rohit and Deepak, were indeed not Rohingya Muslims but Hindus from Uttar Pradesh. The men, who hail from Amethi and are currently residing in Indore, clarified that they belong to the Jogi community, a group known for traveling and begging across villages.

During their investigation, the police found that Rohit and Deepak's claims were legitimate. They produced their Aadhar cards and provided evidence of their current residence in Aathmile, Thana Dera Khudel, Indore. The police confirmed the authenticity of their identity and found no evidence suggesting any suspicious activities or behavior.
