After Amul increased the prices of the milk by Rs 2 a liter on Sunday, Mother Dairy on Monday increased the prices of fresh pouch milk by Rs 2 per liter across variants. The change in the prices will be effective from June 3.

Mother Dairy on Price Hike

Mother Dairy presently sells 35 lakh liters of fresh milk per day in Delhi-NCR and stated that it last updated its liquid milk prices in February 2023.

“Consumer prices remained the same even though milk procurement costs increased in the previous three months.” Furthermore, Mother Dairy stated that the country has never experienced such high heat stress, which will probably have an additional negative effect on milk output.

The company stated that, on average, it allocates between 75 and 80 percent of milk sales proceeds to procurement, which contributes to maintaining dairy farming's viability and the supply of high-quality milk.

Amul on Price Hike

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) which markets Amul milk attributed the fresh hike in the input costs. With the revision in prices, the price of buffalo milk will stand at Rs 73 a liter and cow milk will be available at Rs 58 a liter. The new prices have come into effect from June 3, across markets.

According to the official statement, the increase of Rs 2 per liter translates to a range of 3-4% increase in MRP which is much lower than average food inflation. It is worthwhile to note that since Feb'2023, Amul has made no increase in prices of Fresh Pouch milk in major markets.
