In response to the reported rape and killing of an 11-year-old tribal girl in Karauli who was hearing and speech-impaired, the Rajasthan Police on Wednesday announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team. Meanwhile, the father of the child charged that the police had not done enough to apprehend the perpetrators. Although the event is said to have happened on May 9, the girl passed away on Monday, 11 days later, in a Jaipur hospital from her wounds. Thus far, the police have questioned "11–15 individuals" and detained one accused person.

When did it all happen?

The incident happened on May 9, according to the FIR that was filed at the New Mandi police station in the Karauli district on May 11. The girl's mother filed a complaint, alleging that she heard her daughter scream when the child was playing outside their house at around ten in the morning and hurriedly left. "About a hundred meters from my house, I saw her, naked and in agony. Since she is mute, she communicated through motions that two individuals burned her alive before running away toward the railroad tracks.
After receiving emergency care, the government hospital directed the couple's daughter to Jaipur. Under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (criminal conduct is done by multiple persons in furtherance of the common aim of all), a formal complaint was filed against unidentified individuals.

Girl's father on the situation

The girl's father stated, "Our sole desire is that the perpetrator should be arrested and hanged," in an interview with The Indian Express. My daughter named one of them in her statement, and it is via him that the other accused can be recognized. But how would the cops get to the

other accused if they do not arrest him?

He claimed that on Monday, "I left her lifeless body in Jaipur (and headed for Karauli)" because he was so furious. I wanted to burn the man alive because I was so furious, but I refrained from breaking the law and instead spoke with the superintendent of police. The father claimed his daughter passed away on Monday at 1:15 a.m., but no doctors were available to treat her, and she was not pronounced dead until approximately 7 a.m. And even though we had called the police at 6 a.m. to report her death, they did not arrive until 3 p.m., and they did not handover the body to us until 7.30 p.m. following a post-mortem.  "They wanted to stop us from sitting on a protest," he asserted, explaining the delay.

More on the case

"We were planning to stage a sit-in protest for tomorrow (Thursday), but some media falsely stated that we are demanding a government position, compensation of Rs 50 lakh, and other things, leading the locals to believe that we are doing this for financial gain. Will I seek the government now that my daughter is dead? Justice is all we seek, not a single rupee," he declared.

The plot thickens

On Tuesday, the final ceremonies were held. "The cops harassed and intimidated us when they got home. We have been informed that holding a protest will result in our incarceration and the filing of a complaint against us. The father said, "We are being mentally tormented, and the police have been told not to let us leave the village by any means."

Authorities unwinding the wires within

In response to the accusations, Karauli SP Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay refuted them, saying, "I have met the family, as has the Inspector General Rahul Prakash, and they have provided a memorandum. We are copying everything they have to say. This is a case that the police are treating seriously.

The child did not provide a name in her statement submitted under CrPC 161 on May 14, but she was able to identify one of the attackers after seeing ten to twelve images on a mobile device. Her uncle, who was with her when the statement was being recorded, recognized the individual as a local and gave his name as well.

Questions raise

On whether she was raped, IG Rahul Prakash too said, “It is a sensitive case and it will not be appropriate to comment on it yet. However, the FIR has no mention of such an allegation and her statement too does not mention anything like this.” He said that the girl’s family has been heard and considering the nature of the case, a special investigation team will be constituted.
The girl’s father lives on rent with his wife, mother, three daughters and son and earns a meagre livelihood by selling milk from his two buffaloes. “I also send money for my younger, unemployed brother who lives in the village,” he said.

Conflict in array

IG Rahul Prakash also stated, "It is a sensitive issue and it will not be proper to comment on it now," in response to the question of whether she had been raped. That being said, neither her statement nor the FIR make reference to this kind of claim. He stated that the girl's family has been consulted and that a special investigating team will be assembled given the circumstances of the case.
The father of the girl makes a pitiful living from selling the milk from his two buffaloes, and he shares a small home with his mother, wife, three daughters, and son. He said, "I also send money for my younger brother who lives in the village and is unemployed."
