Just a year after the shocking incident of two women paraded naked in Manipur’s Churachandpur by a mob that rocked the nation, some more visuals have emerged that are heart-wrenching. According to the sources, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reported that the two women from the Kuki-Zomi community had managed to sit inside the police gypsy parked on the roadside, but the police driver told them that ‘they didn’t have the key’ after they requested to start the vehicle.

According to the chargesheet filed by the CBI, two other male victims were also present in the vehicle, soon after the two women sat in the vehicle, the policemen present left the spot as a large mob pulled the victims from inside the vehicle.

The investigation further revealed that the chargesheet was filed against six people and a minor before the special court in Guwahati in October in connection with the violence that happened on May 3. Two of the family members were also murdered by the mob of 800-1000. The FIR further mentions that the police personnel were present at the spot when the women were raped but did not help.

Case registered against the accused

Following the request of the Manipur government and a notification from the Centre, the CBI registered a case. The accused have been charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those about gangrape, murder, outraging the modesty of a woman, and criminal conspiracy.

All the accused named in the chargesheet, Huirem Herodash Meitei, Arun Khundongbam alias Nanao, Ningombam Tomba Singh alias Tomthin, Pukhrihongbam Suranjoy Meitei, Nameirakpam Kiram Meitei, and a juvenile have been apprehended by Manipur Police.
