The horrible video that has emerged out of Manipur, where two women were paraded naked by a large mob and then allegedly gang-rapped, has understandably evoked widespread anger from across the country.

Political leaders across the spectrum, including the Prime Minister and opposition leaders, have called for strong actions against the perpetrators seen in the video.

Bollywood stars have joined in to condemn the actions that have taken place in Manipur, with actors taking to Twitter to post their horror at the visuals.

‘Shaken, disgusted’: Akshay Kumar on Manipur video

Superstar Akshay Kumar took to his official Twitter handle to write, “Shaken, disgusted to see the video of violence against women in Manipur. I hope the culprits get such a harsh punishment that no one ever thinks of doing a horrifying thing like this again.”

Manipur video ‘shaken me to the core’: Kiara Advani

Actress Kiara Advani expressed her shock at the video, tweeting, “The video of violence against women in Manipur is horrifying and has shaken me to the core. I pray the women get justice at the earliest. Those responsible must face the most SEVERE punishment they deserve.”

Richa Chadha, Sonu Soon, Sanjay Dutt and others join in condemning Manipur video

Many other Bollywood stars joined in to show their disgust at the turn of events, with actor Sonu Sood, known for speaking on social topics, writing, “Manipur video has shaken everyone’s soul. It was humanity that was paraded..not the women.”

Actress Richa Chada had just three words to describe the video, writing, “Shameful! Horrific! Lawless!”

Sanjay Dutt wrote, “The video portraying violence against women in Manipur was shocking and sickening. My utmost hope is for the culprits to be punished with the utmost severity, sending a clear message that such despicable actions will not be tolerated in any circumstance.”

Marathi actress Renuka Shahane took to Twitter to question the government’s efforts to instil law and order in Manipur, writing, “Is there no one to stop the atrocities in Manipur? If you are not shaken to the core by that disturbing video of two women, is it even right to call oneself human, let alone Bharatiya or Indian!”

The failure of the Manipur government was also highlighted by actress Urmila Matondkar, who wrote, “Shocked, shaken, horrified at Manipur video and the fact that it happened in May with no action on it. Shame on those sitting on their high horses drunk with power, jokers in the media boot-licking them, and celebrities who are silent. When did we reach here dear Bharatiyas/Indians?”
