New Delhi: A case of murder of a monk has come to light in the holy city of Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh. The monk, known as Fauji Baba, was famous in the area and had been living alone in his ashram for many years. On Saturday afternoon, he was found dead in his ashram. The police have arrested a young man in connection with this case.

During preliminary questioning, the accused informed the police that he was angry with the monk for not providing him with a study table. The accused had threatened the monk a day earlier, stating that if he did not receive the study table, he would kill him. The police have registered a case and started further investigation.

Discovery of the incident

The incident occurred in an ashram opposite the dam at Chandrabindu on Omkar Parvat in Khandwa district. The monk's body was discovered when a person passing by the ashram after bathing noticed the monk lying face down. Upon closer inspection, the person saw blood coming from the monk’s mouth and immediately informed the police.

Police response

Upon receiving the information, Mandhata police promptly arrived at the scene. The monk was identified as Fauji Baba. Suspecting foul play, the police began their investigation. During inquiries around the ashram, it was discovered that a young man named Abhishek Sharma had been staying there for a few days but was missing from the scene. The police located and detained Abhishek, who revealed during questioning that the monk’s refusal to provide a study table led to the conflict.

Statement from Khandwa SP

Khandwa Superintendent of Police Manoj Rai stated that they received information about a monk’s body found on Omkar Parvat. The police immediately responded and began investigating the matter. Initial findings indicated that a young man named Abhishek Sharma, who worked for the monk, had left for Barwaha after the incident. The police detained him and learned about the study table dispute. Abhishek Sharma worked in NHDC colony and had recently met the monk through an acquaintance on Guru Purnima, becoming his disciple.

Background of the accused

According to SP Manoj Rai, preliminary information revealed that Abhishek was a second-year BA student. He had requested a study table from the monk, but upon being refused, he threatened the monk, who did not take the threat seriously and dismissed Abhishek from work. On Saturday morning, Abhishek went to the ashram, strangled the monk while he was praying, and killed him. Fauji Baba, originally from Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, was approximately 84 years old and had been living in Omkareshwar for about 35 years. The police are continuing their interrogation of the accused for further details.
