India's aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 crore on Air India for violations of safety standards on certain long-haul routes.

The action comes after the DGCA received a voluntary safety report from an Air India employee alleging safety lapses by the airline on some terrain-critical international flights.

The regulator said it conducted a comprehensive investigation based on the employee's complaint. Preliminary findings revealed the airline's non-compliance with regulations, prompting the DGCA to issue a show cause notice to Air India's Accountable Manager.

Upon examining Air India's response, the DGCA found that the operations of the leased aircraft on specific routes did not conform to regulatory standards and manufacturer limits.

"Since the said operations of the leased aircraft were not in line with regulatory/OEM performance limits, DGCA has initiated enforcement action and imposed a penalty of Rs. 1.10 crore on M/s Air India," the regulator stated.

This enforcement action highlights DGCA's strict monitoring of aviation safety protocols to ensure passenger well-being. The hefty penalty serves as a stern warning for airlines to adhere to all operational compliances.
