Rajasthan News: A three-year-old girl named Chetna is trapped in a 700-foot borewell in Rajasthan's Kotputli-Behror district, having fallen in while playing on her father's farm. Rescue operations have been underway for over 20 hours, involving teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Chetna is currently stuck at a depth of approximately 150 feet, with her movements monitored through a camera system. To ensure she receives adequate oxygen, a pipe has been lowered into the borewell.

Challenges in the Rescue Operation

Initial rescue attempts involved digging, but rescuers encountered significant challenges due to the compacted soil surrounding the borewell, which had become moist and difficult to excavate. As a result, the teams have shifted their strategy to using a hook attached to a rod to attempt to pull her out safely. Officials are optimistic about her rescue, stating that efforts are ongoing and she is expected to be retrieved soon.

This incident marks the second borewell tragedy in Rajasthan within two weeks. Just recently, a five-year-old boy named Aryna fell into a borewell in Dausa district. His rescue operation lasted 56 hours but tragically ended with him being declared dead at the hospital after being retrieved from a similar depth. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken notice of these incidents, issuing a statement highlighting that "the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court and the Centre are not being followed by authorities." They emphasized that such negligence constitutes a violation of the right to life.

The NHRC has requested a comprehensive report from the Rajasthan government and police regarding the actions taken in response to these incidents. This report will include details about any FIRs filed, actions against responsible public authorities, and compensation provided to affected families. The ongoing rescue efforts have drawn significant public attention, with local officials closely monitoring the situation.

Rajasthan's Industry Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has been actively involved, ensuring that all necessary measures are taken for a swift resolution. The community remains hopeful for Chetna’s safe return as rescue teams continue their critical work.
