Delhi weather: Rainfall and showers predicted today, hailstorm warnings for other states

Delhi started experiencing an abrupt shift in the climate, on Saturday morning. There were high gusts and mild rain in several parts of Delhi, including Janpath, RK Puram, India Gate, and Greater Kailash. 

The national capital saw early Sunday morning rainstorms in several areas. New showers were observed in areas such as Central Delhi, RK Puram, Indraprastha, Mandi House, and Kartavya Path, on March 3.

IMD Warnings

The IMD warned of possible hailstorm activity as of March 2. The warning included a few isolated locations in Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, East Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh, and East Uttar Pradesh.

IMD Predictions

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted light to moderate rainfall of scattered to fairly widespread nature on Saturday, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds throughout Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Delhi.

Severe weather was experienced in northwest India yesterday. According to IMD, on Saturday, there were isolated locations over Delhi, Chandigarh, and Haryana where the minimum temperature deviated over normal.

The Met Department added that it is highly unlikely that there would be any notable changes to the minimum temperatures over northwest India in the following three days, and that they will then drop by three to five degrees Celsius.

Additionally, the IMD has forecast that on Saturday, there will very likely be isolated areas of heavy to very heavy rain or snowfall over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh.

Afghanistan and Arabian Sea 

The IMD reported that a trough extends from this cyclonic circulation in lower and middle tropospheric levels to the Northwest Arabian Sea. The western disturbance is positioned over north Afghanistan and its surrounding areas. Furthermore, it stated that strong moisture feeding is occurring and is expected to continue until March 3 from the Arabian Sea to northwest India.
