Delhi gang rape: Delhi Police arrested three men, including an auto driver, in connection with the gang-rape of a female researcher from Odisha. The brutal assault occurred on the night of October 11, when two intoxicated men reportedly noticed the woman alone and conspired to attack her. According to authorities, the woman was forcibly taken to a secluded area where she was assaulted. An autorickshaw driver, who witnessed the incident, later joined in the crime. The three men subsequently placed her in the auto and abandoned her at a deserted location.

Who are the accused?

The accused have been identified as Prabhu Mahato (28), an auto driver; Pramod Babu (32), a scrap dealer; and Mohammed Shamshul (29), a beggar. Investigators reviewed hundreds of CCTV recordings to track the suspects, ultimately leading to their arrests. Authorities seized the autorickshaw and recovered clothing worn by the men at the time of the attack, which served as crucial evidence.

Medical condition of the victim

The victim, who sustained severe injuries during the assault, is currently receiving medical care in a Delhi hospital. She informed medical staff of the assault, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. After obtaining detailed descriptions, the police identified the autorickshaw involved and apprehended Mahato, followed by the arrests of Pramod and Shamshul.

Statements from the accused

During police questioning, Pramod admitted to being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the attack. He alleged that both he and Shamshul, also intoxicated, decided to assault the woman under the mistaken assumption that she was mentally unstable. The two men then dragged her to an isolated spot where they committed the assault. Auto driver Mahato, who witnessed the incident, later forced the woman into his vehicle and assaulted her before abandoning her near Sarai Kale Khan and fleeing.
