Delhi shivers as temperature drops to 5.2 degrees celsius: Here is what IMD predicts for north India

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a significant drop in temperature in Delhi, with the mercury plummeting to 5.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday. This recorded temperature was nearly 5 degrees below the seasonal average, according to IMD data. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature in the capital city reached 23.6 degrees Celsius, a normal range for this time of year.

Mist forecasted for Sunday morning

As per IMD forecasts, Delhi experienced high humidity levels ranging between 97 per cent and 51 per cent. Anticipating mist on Sunday morning, the weather department projected a maximum temperature of around 25 degrees Celsius, with the minimum expected to hover around 7 degrees Celsius.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) for Delhi remained in the 'Very Poor' category, with a recorded AQI of 309 on Saturday, as reported by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The AQI scale categorizes air quality from 'Good' (0-50) to 'Severe' (401-500).

Temperature conditions across north India

Beyond Delhi, the IMD provided insights into temperature conditions across other northern states. Cold wave conditions were observed in several regions, including southeast Rajasthan, south Bihar, north Jharkhand, and north Gangetic West Bengal.

In Haryana, Hisar recorded the lowest temperature at 3.6 degrees Celsius, while Ludhiana in Punjab registered a minimum temperature of 5.8 degrees Celsius. Bihar also experienced chilly weather, with temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius in various cities and towns. Rajasthan saw Piulani and Churu as the coldest locations, both recording a low of 4.5 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa, the minimum temperature stood at 5.5 degrees Celsius.
