The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on Delhi's liquor policy has ignited a fierce political debate, with the BJP launching a scathing attack on AAP.
The CAG report revealed significant financial irregularities in Delhi's liquor sector, with the state government incurring losses of over ₹2,000 crore due to the 2021-2022 excise policy. The report highlighted licensing violations, lack of transparency in pricing, and poor quality control measures, which led to revenue losses and potential health risks.
Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva termed the CAG report a list of AAP's "black deeds," accusing Arvind Kejriwal of being a "liquor broker." AAP leader Atishi defended the scrapped policy, blaming losses on illegal liquor imports from neighboring states and alleging corruption in the old policy. The BJP has vowed to hold those responsible for corruption accountable.
Atishi emphasized that the CAG report supports AAP's claims of corruption under the old policy, where contractors and brokers profited through illegal means. She argued that the new policy aimed to address these issues but was unfairly criticized and eventually scrapped. The political battle continues, with both parties trading accusations and justifications.
