New Delhi: On a rainy evening, at least 10 Delhi-bound flights had to be diverted due to severe weather conditions. Around 7 PM, the weather office reported that clouds had converged over the city from all directions, predicting the rain would continue for two hours.

Lieutenant Governor's response

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena took immediate action by instructing all officers to stay vigilant and address waterlogging issues, especially in areas with coaching centers. "Have cautioned all officers to remain alert in light of the ongoing heavy downpour in Delhi. Apart from ensuring minimum inconvenience to people in general, they are advised to specifically address issues at sites prone to waterlogging, including coaching centres,” Mr. Saxena posted on X.

Major waterlogged areas

Waterlogging and prolonged traffic jams were reported in several key locations, including the Income Tax Office (ITO) junction, Connaught Place, Minto Road, and the Moti Bagh flyover. The pass under the Minto Bridge was closed, and videos from Chandni Chowk showed shopkeepers' goods floating in accumulated water.

IMD predicts rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across most parts of Delhi-NCR for the next two hours. The heavy downpour has caused widespread traffic congestion, complicating the evening commute for many residents.

The intense rainfall has not only caused waterlogging but also severe traffic disruptions throughout the city. Commuters faced long delays as waterlogged streets and ongoing rainfall created chaotic conditions on the roads. Authorities are working to manage the situation and minimize inconvenience to the public.
