New Delhi: The demand for which the parents of Delhi were raising their voice for years, finally the government has taken a tough step on it. The recovery of unbridled fees of private schools is now going to become history. The Delhi government has approved the 'School Education Transparency and Fees Determination and Regulation Bill 2025', which will be applicable to 1,677 private and aided schools in the capital.
Education Minister Ashish Sood called it a 'game changer' and said, "Earlier, work was done only by handing over notice, but now we have brought a permanent solution." There will now be a clear guideline and process to increase the fees under the bill. No school will be able to increase fees without concrete reason. This will directly affect the parents' pockets, which will now avoid unnecessary financial burden.
In the last few months, many schools in Delhi had crossed the limits. Parents took to the streets against the 18-20% fee hike at Maharaja Agrasen Model School in Pitampura. It was alleged that the children were given TC for not paying the fees. The Vanasthali Public School of Mayur Vihar has increased the limit - the fees were increased to 100% and the parents of the parents who protested were stopped outside the school.
In April 2025, there was a similar protest outside the Delhi Public School, Dwarka, where the leaders were coming to the stage and assuring action. Now when the bill has passed, it is not just a matter of trust, now the accountability of schools will be decided.
Through this bill, the government has made it clear that education is not just business. Now the role of school, government and parents-will be clear. The biggest thing is that this law can prove to be a milestone in the direction of freeing the education of children from fear and pressure.
