A Delhi Police head constable was apprehended for setting his wife's new car on fire and making threats against her. Despite the serious charges, he was released on bail within hours due to the bailable nature of the offences. The officer, identified as Sudhir, is assigned to the security unit. According to police, Sudhir and his wife, Nisha Shaukeen, a government school teacher, had been married for 15 years but separated about six months ago. They reside in the same building in Najafgarh, with Sudhir living on the ground floor and Nisha on the first floor. The couple has two minor children, a 12-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.

DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh reported that Nisha filed a complaint on Saturday, alleging that her husband had threatened her on June 26 and set her recently purchased Hyundai Exter on fire. "A case has been registered under sections 435, 506, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code," Singh confirmed. Sudhir was taken into custody on Tuesday but was subsequently released on bail.

Car Vandalised While Intoxicated

Nisha Shaukeen recounted that Sudhir attacked her car three times within a span of two hours. She described how, on June 26, Sudhir, in an intoxicated state, stood outside their house and began to act aggressively. "My children and I locked ourselves in a room for at least four hours," Nisha said. "I watched from my home as he vandalised the car. He used a weapon to break the windows and doors. When I called the police, Sudhir fled."

Nisha explained that after the police left, Sudhir returned, further damaged the car, and eventually set it on fire with the help of two others. When asked about his actions, Sudhir said, "I bought a car in October 2023, and in December, she sent a masked man who scratched my car. I wanted to take revenge."

Police Response

The incident has raised concerns among the victim’s family. Nisha’s mother, Hamida Khatoon, along with other family members, has demanded stringent action against Sudhir. The family, including Nisha’s parents and children, approached the police station to ensure justice is served. DCP Ankit Singh assured that a thorough investigation is underway.
