New Delhi: Delhi Police have made significant progress in their investigation into the recent tragedy at a UPSC coaching institute in the Old Rajinder Nagar area, where flooding in a basement led to the deaths of three aspirants. The Delhi Police have filed the First Information Report (FIR) under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sections 105, 106(1), 115(2), 290, and 3(5) of the BNS. The arrests come after the initial detainment of two individuals—one being the owner and coordinator of Raus IAS Study Circle, which operates the coaching institute where the tragedy occurred.We are committed to ensuring strict action against all those involved in this tragic incident, a Delhi Police spokesperson stated. The police are continuing their investigation, examining various documents related to the coaching institute and the circumstances leading to the flood.Action from Municipal Authorities and National Commission for WomenIn addition to the arrests, the Delhi Police are set to issue a notice to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) regarding the deaths of the three UPSC aspirants. The police may also summon MCD officials for questioning as part of their ongoing investigation. Sources indicate that the MCDs role in maintaining the drainage and sanitation infrastructure, which could have prevented the flooding, will be scrutinized.Moreover, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken action by summoning Delhi MLA Durgesh Pathak from Rajinder Nagar. The NCW is concerned about allegations that appeals for drain cleaning were ignored. The Commission has scheduled a hearing for August 2, 2024, at 12:30 PM and has directed MLA Pathak to appear in person.
