Earthquake possibility in Delhi (File )
Delhi: A 7-magnitude earthquake can strike Delhi in the next 24 hours. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) has denied causing alarm over this frightful forecast and asserted that it is not real. This assertion was made by Vikas Kumar, Director of Vikas Geosensing Private Limited. This forecast has been made in a period when the world witnessed huge damage caused by earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand on Friday.
Vikas Kumar issued a statement claiming the earthquake signal. It read, 'All of you are hereby informed that on 31st March 2025 at 7:15 am, the first alert from the Earthquake Early Warning System (ANDSS) is being received at 20 degrees north-south from Delhi, which is 100 kilometers away. This earthquake can be of between 3 to 5 intensity.'
It is also stated that the second signal is being received at the India Nepal border area which is 300 kilometers away and this earthquake signal is being received at 45 degrees towards north east of Delhi. This earthquake can be of 5 to 7 magnitude. Be cautious and take care. This earthquake can arrive within 24 hours. This earthquake data has been received from the machine installed in Ganesh Nagar, Pandav Nagar Delhi.
NCS has dismissed this claim by posting it on X. In the statement made by NCS Director OP Mishra, it has been stated that Vikas Kumar has made this prediction on his own platform. No permission has been sought from the National Center for Seismology for the same. NCS has stated that such claims have previously been made by Vikas Kumar, while he has been repeatedly requested not to create panic by dispersing such unfounded news.
While listing the errors in the forecast given by Vikas Kumar, it has been stated that his notice refers to 20 degrees and 45 degrees that do not make any sense at all. He has not indicated if it is longitude or latitude. NCS stated that Vikas Kumar has released this notice on his own
