The viral video of Delhi police kicking people while offering namaz in Delhi’s Inderlok area has ignited a row. Delhi Police, on Sunday, issued a clarification on claiming that the police officer who kicked people while offering namaz was attacked a day after in the presence of cops.

The user who shared the video claimed that Inspector Manoj who kicked the people was attacked the very next day in the presence of police officials. Taking it to the official X handle, DCP North Delhi refuted the claim, “This is wrong information. The mentioned SI is not present in this video. The video is not of yesterday (Saturday) but of Friday, 8th March, when protestors had gathered in Inderlok. Locals  escorted police officers to the police post after which a scuffle took place.”

Tensions in the north Delhi neighborhood increased, after sub-inspector Manoj Kumar Tomar kicked and dispersed a few persons doing namaz on a street close to the Inderlok Metro Station.

The incident occurred during a prayer session around 2 PM on Friday. As a result, hundreds of residents protested against the use of force, and the sub-inspector was immediately suspended.

In the footage, Tomar was seen attempting to separate a group of men who were praying on the street outside a mosque when, in what appeared to be an outburst of passion, he began kicking and pushing several of them.

After a video of the conduct went viral on social media, people from all walks of life, including political leaders, denounced it. Meanwhile, the officer involved in the incident has been suspended.
