The verdict on a plea filed by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging his arrest and Enforcement Directorate (ED) remand in connection with the liquor scam will be announced by the Delhi High Court on Tuesday (April 9). This decision follows a hearing on April 3 before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, who had reserved the verdict on the CM’s plea challenging his arrest by the ED in the excise policy case.

According to the cause list published on the high court’s website, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma will deliver the order at 2:30 pm on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Kejriwal was arrested on the night of March 21 and is presently incarcerated in Tihar jail, following a Delhi court's decision to send him to judicial custody related to a money laundering case linked to the alleged liquor scam. On April 1, the Rouse Avenue Court extended Kejriwal's judicial custody until April 15.

ED Allegations and Legal Proceedings

The ED alleged that Kejriwal repeatedly responded to questions with 'I don't know,' prompting the probe agency to request 15-day judicial custody, citing his "total uncooperative" stance.

Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se Campaign

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) introduced the 'Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se' theme ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. This campaign was launched a day after the party's fasting protest in solidarity with Kejriwal. During a press conference, AAP MP Sandeep Pathak highlighted Kejriwal's dedication to Delhi's welfare and announced the initiation of the campaign on the four Delhi seats where AAP is contesting.

Kejriwal's Response

Regarding his arrest, Kejriwal questioned its timing, claiming it contravened fundamental constitutional principles such as democracy and free and fair elections. The ED opposed this plea, arguing that Kejriwal cannot seek "immunity" from arrest due to upcoming elections, emphasizing equal application of the law.
