Delhi hospital tragedy: In a tragic incident, a massive blaze engulfed a children's hospital in Delhi, claiming the lives of seven newborn babies. Shockingly, investigations revealed alarming lapses in safety protocols at the Baby Care New Born Hospital in Vivek Vihar. Among the concerning findings were an expired license, the presence of unqualified medical staff, and a lack of essential safety equipment.

The ordeal unfolded late Saturday night when authorities received reports of a devastating fire at the hospital. Prompt action by the police led to the evacuation of twelve infants from the burning building. Tragically, despite efforts, seven infants succumbed to the blaze. The survivors were swiftly transferred to another medical facility for urgent care.

After the extinguishing of the fire, thorough inspections uncovered a series of alarming deficiencies within the hospital premises. Shockingly, it was revealed that the hospital lacked vital safety features such as fire extinguishers and emergency exits. Furthermore, the doctor on duty at the time of the incident was not qualified to provide specialized care to newborns in critical condition.

Legal ramifications

Authorities wasted no time in taking action against those responsible for the negligence. Dr. Akash, the doctor on duty with a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree, was swiftly arrested. Additionally, the hospital owner, Dr. Naveen Khichi, and his wife, Dr. Jagriti, also faced legal repercussions for their role in the tragedy.

PM Modi announces financial assistance

In the wake of the heartbreaking incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh for the families of the victims from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF). Furthermore, the Delhi government initiated a magisterial inquiry to investigate the circumstances leading to the fire and the subsequent loss of innocent lives.
