Waterlogging Inspection by Mayor Shelly Oberoi

After enduring weeks of sweltering heatwaves, Delhi experienced monsoon rains on Friday, receiving 228.1 mm rainfall, the highest for June since 1936. The relentless downpour caused significant waterlogging across various parts of Delhi, including the Lutyens area, where water entered the residences of parliamentarians and ministers. Visuals of flooded underpasses went viral. On Sunday, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi, accompanied by MCD officials, a local councillor, and an MLA, inspected the Kishanganj area of Sadar Bazar Assembly to address waterlogging issues.

Casualties Due to Rainfall

The two days of monsoon rains resulted in the loss of 11 lives. Notable incidents included the drowning of two boys in a waterlogged underpass in northwest Delhi's Badli on Saturday, following the heavy rains on Friday. In Okhla, 60-year-old Digvijay Kumar Chaudhary died after getting stuck with his scooter in a flooded underpass. Additionally, the bodies of three labourers were recovered from the rubble of a wall that collapsed at an under-construction site in the Vasant Vihar area amid heavy rain on June 28.
