The latest exit polls for the Delhi Assembly elections suggest a tough future for the Congress party, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems poised for a potential return to power. After ruling Delhi for the past decade under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faces the possibility of a shift in the political dynamics, according to the polls.
A common trend across the exit polls is the dire prediction for Congress, with most forecasts suggesting that the party will either fail to win any seats or secure a mere two seats in the 70-seat Assembly. This continues to be a major setback for Congress, which has been grappling to re-establish its influence in Delhi’s politics.
The Matrize exit poll predicts a single seat for Congress, while People’s Pulse foresees a complete wipeout. Similarly, People’s Insight and P-Marq predict minimal success for Congress, with either no seats or just one seat in their future. However, Chanakya Strategies offers a slightly more hopeful outlook, estimating that Congress could secure 2-3 seats, although this prediction stands in contrast to others.
On the other hand, the AAP seems to be heading toward its fourth consecutive term in power. The BJP, which has been out of power in Delhi since 1998, is determined to make a comeback, but exit polls suggest limited success in this effort. Despite BJP’s strategic moves to strengthen its position, it appears that their chances of overtaking AAP in the Delhi elections are slim.
Voter turnout in the 2020 Delhi elections was 62.82%, a slight decrease from 67.47% in 2015. While this drop might reflect some shifts in the electorate, the overall sentiment still indicates that AAP is likely to retain its stronghold in Delhi, with BJP struggling to make any significant breakthroughs. The exit polls suggest that Congress will not have a major impact on this election.
