Delhi: A festive Diwali celebration turned tragic as a 40-year-old man, Akash Sharma, and his teenage nephew, Rishabh Sharma, were fatally shot outside their home in Shahdara, northeast Delhi. Akash's 10-year-old son, Krish, was also injured in the incident.

The incident occurred Thursday evening around 8 pm. Two men arrived on a scooter and initially greeted Akash with respect, touching his feet as a gesture of reverence. However, moments later, they opened fire on Akash, Rishabh, and Krish, leaving the festive scene marred by tragedy.

CCTV captures shocking moment of attack

CCTV footage from the scene recorded the precise moments of the shooting. Akash, his son, and nephew were seen engaged in Diwali celebrations outside their home when two men approached on a scooter. One of the attackers dismounted, exchanged a few words with Akash, then drew a firearm and opened fire. A teenager attempted to pursue the attackers as they fled the scene.

Immediate medical response

Following the attack, the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Sadly, Akash and Rishabh were declared dead upon arrival. Krish, who sustained injuries, is currently receiving treatment. According to Shahdara Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prashant Gautam, the police responded to a PCR call about gunfire around 8:30 pm in Bihari Colony. At the scene, officers found evidence of gunfire, including bloodstains and spent rounds, with a preliminary investigation indicating five rounds had been fired.

Possible motive: Family dispute

Police believe the attack may have stemmed from a longstanding personal dispute, as reported by ANI. Akash’s wife identified the assailants, revealing that an ongoing land-related conflict between the families could have been the motive. Investigators are currently taking family statements to uncover further details surrounding the tragic attack.
