In the early hours of Thursday, the Delhi-Darbhanga Special Train (number 04068) derailed at Harinagar railway station, located in the West Champaran district of Bihar. Fortunately, the incident did not result in any casualties, though it caused brief panic among passengers.

The derailment took place as the train was entering track No. 4 at Harinagar station. Four wheels of coach number 153735/GSLRD came off the tracks, momentarily halting the train's progress. As a result, the down line was temporarily closed while the up line remained operational. The derailed coach was swiftly removed, and after a four-hour delay, the train continued its journey to Darbhanga around 4 a.m.

Statement from the station master

Ritesh Kumar, the Station Master at Harinagar, highlighted that the reduced speed of the train helped prevent a potentially disastrous situation. He stated, “The Delhi-Darbhanga Special Train derailed at Harinagar railway station. Four wheels of a bogie derailed. However, all passengers are safe. If the speed of the train had not been reduced, a major accident could have occurred.”

Investigation into the cause

Officials from the Samastipur Railway Division have confirmed the derailment and are now investigating the cause. A team has been formed to assess whether the track was damaged before the train's arrival or if proper inspections were conducted. The investigation will focus on maintaining accountability and ensuring that proper maintenance protocols are followed to prevent such incidents in the future.
