Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has summoned AAP leader and minister Atishi asking her to appear before it on June 29 in connection with the defamation case. The defamation suit was filed by BJP spokesperson and Media Department Head Praveen Shankar Kapoor.

What is the case all about?

The case relates to Atishi's allegations that she had levelled against the BJP leaders saying that it had attempted to bribe and poach AAP legislators.

In the defamation suit, Kapoor mentioned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi's name alleging that the statement had tarnished his and party's reputation. It was filed on April 30 where the BJP leader alleged that AAP did not have any material as proof to substantiate their claim. He also cited Kejriwal's post in which he had alleged that the BJP had contacted seven AAP MLAs and was offering Rs 25 crore to switch sides.

He further cited Atishi's statement that she had said during a press conference where she claimed of receiving an offer to join the BJP to save her political career failing to which she would be arrested by Enforcement Directorate.

Previously the election commission had issued a show-cause notice to the AAP leader asking her to back her allegations with facts for her statement that BJP approached her to join its party.

Demand stated in the petition

In his petition, the leader has sought withdrawal of the remarks made by her and also an apology on TV and social media for her unsubstantiated remarks.
