Delhi to battle scorching heat; Heatwave to continue for another five days

Temperatures in several parts of Delhi again breached the 47 degrees Celsius mark on Monday, with the weather office issuing a 'red alert' for the next five days due to heatwave to severe heatwave conditions in the Delhi NCR. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'red alert' for the next few days and has predicted heat wave in many parts of Delhi and severe heat wave in other areas. The highest temperature of this season was recorded at 44.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Saturday's temperature was 43.6 degrees Celsius, while Friday's was 42.5 degrees Celsius.

School closed in Delhi NCR

IMD has predicted mainly clear sky on Tuesday and heat wave conditions in many parts of Delhi and severe heat in other areas along with strong winds at the speed of 25-35 km per hour. The Delhi government has asked private and government-aided schools, which are conducting them despite summer holidays, to close classes with immediate effect. The Directorate of Education said in an order that all schools have been directed to observe summer vacation from May 11 to June 30 for this academic year. The order said, 'All government schools are closed from May 11. However, it has been observed that some government-aided and unaided private schools are open even during the scorching heat.' “Therefore, the heads of all government-aided and unaided private schools in Delhi are advised to close the schools for summer vacation with immediate effect,” the order said.

47 degree Celsius on Monday
