Delhi: The much-anticipated decision regarding who will be the next chief minister of Delhi is likely to be taken on Wednesday during a meeting of the newly-elected BJP MLAs' ahead of the oath-taking ceremony in Ramlila Maidan on February 20. As of February 19, 2025, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to conclude the selection of Delhi's new Chief Minister following their significant victory in the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections held on February 5, 2025.
The BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, marking their return to power in Delhi after 27 years. This victory came at the expense of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which saw a substantial reduction from 62 seats in the previous assembly to 22 seats in the current one. Notably, several prominent AAP leaders, including former Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi Marlena, were unseated in this election.
In the aftermath of the election results announced on February 8, 2025, the BJP has been in the process of selecting its legislative leader, who will assume the role of Chief Minister. The party's Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) are scheduled to convene today to finalize their choice for the leadership position. While the BJP has not officially disclosed the names of potential candidates, several senior party leaders are reportedly under consideration.The newly elected leader is expected to meet with the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to formally stake a claim to form the government.
