Arvind Kejriwal: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has been in jail for about three months, has reportedly lost a significant amount of weight. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised concerns about his health, stating that Kejriwal has lost 8 kilograms since his incarceration. AAP claims that since Kejriwal's arrest on March 21, his weight has dropped from 70 kilograms to 62 kilograms by June 22. The rapid weight loss is alarming, and the party has highlighted the need for immediate medical intervention to address his deteriorating health.

What are AIIMS recommendations?

In response to the weight loss, the medical board at AIIMS has advised that Kejriwal include calorie-dense foods like puri and paratha in his diet. Despite this advice, the party states that only blood-related tests have been conducted so far, with crucial heart and cancer-related tests still pending.

Delayed medical tests

Doctors from Max Hospital had previously expressed concerns about Kejriwal's continuous weight loss, recommending several tests to ensure his health is not at serious risk. However, the delays in conducting these tests have led to increased anxiety about his well-being.

Kejriwal had requested a seven-day extension of his interim bail to undergo these necessary medical tests. However, this request faced obstacles as the High Court intervened in his bail status.

Court's decision and its implications

On June 21, the High Court upheld the lower court's decision to grant bail to Kejriwal. This stay will remain in effect until the case is heard further. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had challenged Kejriwal's bail, arguing that his release could interfere with the ongoing investigation due to his influential position as Chief Minister.

The ED emphasized that releasing Kejriwal during a critical stage of the investigation could impede the process. Given his role as Chief Minister, they argued that his presence outside jail might influence the investigation.
