Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approached the Supreme Court, challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam. The move comes after the Delhi High Court rejected his plea against the arrest, leading Kejriwal to seek relief from the apex court.

Kejriwal's appeal to Supreme Court

Kejriwal's special leave petition to the Supreme Court contests the Delhi High Court's decision on August 5, which dismissed his plea against the CBI's arrest and subsequent remand. The AAP leader's legal team, led by Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, brought the matter before Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud for urgent consideration on Monday.

Urgent mentioning before the CJI

During the court session, Senior Advocate Singhvi highlighted the urgency of the matter, requesting an immediate listing. CJI Chandrachud responded by instructing the senior counsel to submit an email to the court registry, stating, "Send an email, I will examine it."

In the contested decision, the Delhi High Court, led by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, stated that Kejriwal's arrest could not be deemed without justification or illegal. This ruling has prompted Kejriwal to seek intervention from the Supreme Court.

Pending bail plea and judicial proceedings

The Delhi High Court has yet to deliver its verdict on a bail plea filed by Kejriwal in connection with the CBI's investigation. The verdict was reserved on July 29, the same day the CBI submitted its charge sheet against Kejriwal and other accused parties to a special court. Additionally, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a prosecution complaint in the money laundering case, naming Kejriwal and the AAP as accused.

On July 12, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail in the ED's money laundering case. However, his release was stalled due to the separate arrest by the CBI. Currently, Kejriwal remains in judicial custody, which has been extended until August 20 in relation to the excise policy case.
