New Delhi: In a bold move to galvanize support for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Atishi announced a crowdfunding initiative on Sunday. During a press conference in Delhi, she emphasized her hope that citizens would rally behind her party's commitment to integrity and effective governance.

Funding the Campaign

Atishi revealed an online platform where supporters can contribute financially, stating that she requires ₹40 lakh to effectively contest the elections. The AAP has a history of relying on grassroots donations, which she believes empowers them to maintain a focus on honest politics. "Over the past 5 years, you've stood by me as an MLA, a minister, and now as the Chief Minister of Delhi. None of this would have been possible without your blessings and support," Atishi expressed on the social media platform X.

A Call for Support

In her appeal, Atishi highlighted the significance of community backing in her political journey. "As a young, educated woman, your belief and donations have enabled me to imagine a career in politics—a path I couldn’t have walked alone. Now, as we face another election campaign, I need your support once again," she added. This sentiment echoes the AAP's longstanding philosophy of engaging with ordinary citizens to fund their campaigns.

Election Context

The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8. The AAP aims to secure its third consecutive term after winning 67 seats in the 2015 elections and 62 in 2020. In contrast, the BJP secured three seats in 2015 and eight in 2020, while Congress failed to win any seats.Interestingly, despite being part of the INDIA alliance, Congress and AAP are not collaborating for these elections.

Criticizing the BJP's indecision regarding their chief ministerial candidate, Atishi pointed out credible sources indicating that Ramesh Bidhuri might be their choice—someone she described as known for his "abusive" remarks. As the political landscape heats up ahead of the elections, Atishi's crowdfunding campaign represents a strategic effort to harness public support and financial backing for her party’s agenda focused on transparency and accountability.
