Delhi boils at 47 degree Celsius; Severe heatwave to continue for next seven days

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heat wave in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh till May 25 (Saturday).

Taking cognizance of the scorching heat and rapidly rising mercury, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issues a 'red alert' for several parts of north India including Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh. The weather monitoring department has predicted severe heatwave conditions over the next five days with maximum temperature nearing 48 degree celsius. 

Maximum temperature recorded

The maximum temperature recorded in the capital Delhi on Wednesday was 43.4 degrees Celsius. This is three degrees more than this season's average. IMD said that due to extreme heat and heat wave, red alert has been issued in Delhi. Also told that the sky will be clear on Thursday. Heat wave will prevail at some places. Strong winds can blow at a speed of 25-35 km per hour in many areas of Delhi-NCR.

Severe heatwave to continue for next seven days

The Meteorological Department has predicted severe heat wave to continue in Delhi for the next seven days. These days the maximum temperature is expected to be between 44 to 47 degrees Celsius. In the seven-day forecast, a red alert has been issued from Thursday to Saturday. It has been advised to take utmost care of vulnerable people due to heat wave. It has been advised to cover the body completely before leaving the house during the day.

Respite from the heat

These days the people of Bihar are getting some respite from the heat. A drop in temperature is being seen in many districts of Bihar. Also, rain with strong winds has been predicted in many districts. The local meteorological department said that there may be rain in many districts of Bihar including Nalanda, Buxar, Purnia, Madhepura, Kishanganj and Jehanabad.

Heatwave till  May 25

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heat wave in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh till May 25 (Saturday). Along with this, there is an alert of heat wave in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh till Saturday. Heat wave has been predicted to continue till May 24 (Friday) in many districts of Maharashtra. Also, the temperature is expected to remain above 45 degrees in many districts of Maharashtra.
