New Delhi: A 45-year-old homeless man named Lekhraj was tragically killed after being struck by a car and allegedly dragged for 10 meters in Delhi’s Connaught Place, according to a report from PTI. The accident took place on September 4, and police officials are now investigating the incident.

Driver flees after incident

The driver of the vehicle, Shivam Dubey, fled the scene after hitting the man near Barakhamba Radial Road in Connaught Place’s outer circle. Dubey, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, had borrowed the car from a friend in Mahipalpur, South Delhi, to meet someone in the area. At around 3:25 PM on Wednesday, while returning from the meeting, Dubey allegedly hit Lekhraj as he crossed the road.

Driver arrested using CCTV footage

With the help of CCTV footage from the area, police were able to track down the car and its owner. Dubey was arrested the next day and booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The car involved in the accident has been impounded, and further investigations are underway.
