A court in Uttar Pradesh has sentenced a self-proclaimed tantrik (occult practitioner) to 10 years in prison for raping a 16-year-old girl in Dehradun. The incident occurred in December 2017 when the accused, identified as Chintamani, lured the victim from her home in Bijnor under the pretext of performing spiritual rituals.

Incident Details

The victim, a teenager from Moradabad, was convinced by Chintamani to travel to Dehradun, where he promised to perform spiritual rituals to help her. However, once they arrived, Chintamani drugged the victim and sexually assaulted her. The girl’s family grew concerned when she went missing and filed a police report.

Upon investigation, police traced the girl to Dehradun, where she was found in the custody of the accused. The victim later revealed that Chintamani had given her a drink laced with sedatives before assaulting her. He also falsely promised to marry her as part of the deceitful plan.

Legal Action and Sentence

Following the arrest of Chintamani, the victim’s father contacted him, and the police took immediate action. In a fast-track trial, the court convicted Chintamani of rape and sentenced him to 10 years in prison, along with a fine of ₹10,000. The court's decision brings justice to the victim after a lengthy legal battle.
