Mega Military Projects: The Defence Ministry, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is gearing up for a significant stride towards indigenisation in the defence sector.

A high-profile Defence Acquisition Council meeting, led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by top military officials, is slated for Thursday to discuss projects worth around Rs 2 lakh crore.

Mega Fighter Aircraft Projects and Helicopter Deal

The agenda for the meeting includes two colossal fighter aircraft projects and a substantial light attack helicopter deal. Among the prominent projects are India's most extensive deal to procure 97 Light Combat Aircraft Mark1A and the upgrading of 84 Su-30MKIs.

Both projects, designed for indigenous execution, are anticipated to unlock substantial export potential for the Indian military industry.

Light Combat Helicopter Prachand and Tower Artillery Gun Systems

Another major project in focus is the acquisition of 156 Light Combat Helicopter Prachand, to be divided between the Army and the Air Force, with the Air Force leading procurement efforts.

The plan also encompasses the purchase of 400 Tower Artillery Gun Systems, estimated to cost around Rs 6,500 crore.

Additionally, proposals related to assault rifle procurement and armoured personnel carriers from the Indian Army are on the meeting's agenda.

Indigenous Medium Range Surface to Air Missile for Indian Navy

The meeting will also address the indigenous development of the Medium Range Surface to Air Missile air defence system for the Indian Navy, a critical step towards enhancing self-reliance in defence capabilities.

Push for Indigenisation

India's commitment to indigenisation has not only met critical defence requirements but also positioned the nation as a leader in the global defence industry, shedding its title as the largest importer of weapons.

Stay tuned for updates as the Defence Ministry greenlights these monumental military projects, shaping the future of India's defence capabilities.
