Bollywood is celebrity Deepika Padukone is charged Oscar with consistently disregarding the rights of deserving Indian films. Disheartened and angry, Deepika accepted her dismay and frustration at the vigilance of the Academy in a sincere video post on social networking sites.

A moment of personal pride

Deepika remembered the day of triumph when she watched RRR's song Naatu Naatu win the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2023. She did not have a personal interest in the film but the victory tasted awfully personal and sweet to her.

Highlighting overlooked Indian movies

The clip featured scenes from award-winning Indian movies like All We Imagine As Light, Laapataa Ladies, Tumbadd, and The Lunchbox, all of which the Oscars overlooked. Deepika's subtle but strong message highlighted the Academy's continued disregard for Indian cinema.

A rare win and a new hope

Deepika did mention a single Oscar victory that gave her great joy - Adrien Brody's Best Actor for The Brutalist. Additionally, the current year's Oscars saw a great victory for the Indian film Anora, which captured five awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
