New Delhi: In an astounding display of ingenuity and persistence, Delhi Police successfully apprehended a notorious criminal who had evaded capture for over a decade. The manhunt, which involved a creative use of social media, culminated in a carefully orchestrated sting operation that highlighted the resourcefulness of the police force.

The Elusive Fugitive

For over ten years, 45-year-old Bunty, accused in 20 cases of snatching, theft, possession of illegal arms, and bootlegging, managed to stay one step ahead of law enforcement. Despite being declared a proclaimed offender (PO) by a city court on June 26, 2013, Bunty consistently eluded capture. His criminal activities spanned multiple police jurisdictions across Delhi, making him a high-priority target for the police.

The turning point in this long-standing manhunt came when the police received a crucial tip-off indicating that Bunty was hiding in Indira Vikas Colony. Investigators discovered that Bunty was using Instagram, presenting an opportunity to leverage social media in their efforts to apprehend him. Head Constable Omparkash Dagar devised an innovative plan to lure Bunty out of hiding.

The Honey Trap

Dagar created a fake Instagram profile posing as a young woman, capturing Bunty's attention. The constable, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Manoj Kumar Meena, began chatting with Bunty, who quickly took the bait and showed eagerness to meet the supposed girl. After days of interaction, Bunty agreed to meet at Punjabi Bagh Metro Station.

The Sting Operation

On June 7, the Delhi Police laid out a strategic trap with the help of technical surveillance. The team was fully prepared for the operation, positioning themselves discreetly around the metro station. As soon as Bunty arrived at the predetermined spot, the police moved in swiftly and apprehended him without incident. This capture marked the end of a decade-long pursuit, showcasing the relentless efforts of the Delhi Police. Bunty's ability to evade arrest for so long can be attributed to his constant changing of addresses and phone numbers. His tactics kept him one step ahead of the authorities, making the task of tracking him down extremely challenging. Despite numerous attempts to capture him, Bunty remained elusive until this innovative approach was employed.

The Role of Social Media in Modern Policing

This operation underscores the evolving role of social media in modern policing. By leveraging platforms like Instagram, law enforcement agencies can adapt to new methods of tracking and apprehending criminals. The success of this operation highlights the importance of staying ahead of technological trends and employing creative strategies in law enforcement.

The successful capture of Bunty after more than a decade on the run is a testament to the dedication and ingenuity of the Delhi Police. Through innovative use of social media and strategic planning, the police managed to bring a notorious criminal to justice. This case serves as an example of how modern technology and traditional policing methods can be combined to achieve remarkable results in the fight against crime.
