New Delhi: Madhubabu Garlapati, a 31-year-old auto driver from Andhra Pradesh, found himself trapped in a nightmarish web of fraud and illegal organ trafficking. Madhubabu Garlapati was drowned by mounting debts from online loan apps. He was desperate for a solution when he came across a Facebook advertisement, which promised a large sum of money for kidney donation. The offer of ₹30 lakh seemed like the answer to his financial problems. However, his decision led to a harrowing ordeal.Madhubabu, a resident of Andhra Pradeshs Guntur was introduced to an agent named Basha from Vijayawada. The agent assured him that the transaction would be straightforward. He also introduced him to a woman from Vijayawada. She shared her experience with him, explaining how she received the promised payment immediately after the donation. Convinced by these assurances, Madhubabu opted to proceed.They took advantage of my financial troubles: VictimMadhubabu underwent surgery at Vijaya Super Speciality Hospital in Vijayawada, where his kidney was removed for a recipient in urgent need. Before the surgery, he was even introduced to the recipients family, who covered his travel and expenses. They promised the full payment after the operation. Despite the promises, Madhubabu received only ₹50,000—a small fraction of the agreed sum. They took advantage of my financial troubles. They made me believe I was helping someone in need, he lamented when recounting his ordeal to local authorities. Fake relationship between Madhubabu and recipients family Reports revealed that documents were forged to create a fake relationship between Madhubabu and the recipients family. Moreover, the surgery took his right kidney instead of the left, as initially agreed. The operation was allegedly conducted by Dr Sharath Babu, who, along with his accomplices, is implicated in an illegal organ trade network.What has hospital said in defenseIn response to the allegations, a spokesperson for Vijaya Super Speciality Hospital defended the institutions actions. Quoting hospitals spokesperson statement, NDTV wrote, The hospital followed due process as per the law. Any allegations against our doctors are baseless and will be addressed through proper channels.
