Crime News: A 20-year-old data entry operator from Uran in Navi Mumbai, Yashashree Shinde left her home for work and never returned. She left home on the morning of July 25. After she left her phone went silent, and after a prolonged period of uncertainty, her family reported her missing to the police. A few days later, a body was discovered in the bushes near Uran railway station which revealed a gruesome tale of brutality.

Navi Mumbai's Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vivek Pansare, received a call on July 27 about a woman's body found near the railway station. Upon arrival, victim's family identified her through her clothing. Police made shocking revelations that victim's body had been brutally attacked and mutilated.

How was the brutality discovered?

The investigation revealed the extent of victim’s suffering. She had been stabbed multiple times, with severe injuries inflicted on her private parts. Her face had been crushed with stones, and her hands and legs were broken. Police stated that her back and stomach had knife wounds, and her hair had been cut off. Her clothes were also torn. The postmortem report would eventually determine whether she had been raped before her death.

The police arrested Dawood Sheikh in connection with the murder. Sheikh, who was arrested in Karnataka's Gulbarga, had a troubling history with Yashashree. Earlier, he proposed her, but she rejected his proposal. Dawood’s obsession and jealousy led him to suspect Yashashree of being involved with another man.

History of conflict

Dawood Sheikh's background reveals a pattern of troubling behavior. In 2019, Yashashree's family filed an FIR against Dawood under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, accusing him of inappropriate actions with Yashashree when she was a minor. Dawood was imprisoned but was released after serving his sentence. It is suspected that this past conflict fueled his rage, which led to the victim's murder.

Further investigations

The police are investigating whether Dawood’s actions were part of a larger, premeditated plan for revenge or the result of obsessive, one-sided love. The connection between Dawood and Mohsin, a person previously arrested by the Navi Mumbai police and found to be in constant contact with Yashashree, is also under scrutiny.
