A joyous wedding celebration turned into a scene of chaos in Bihar's Bhojpur district when a soldier was shot for opposing inappropriate behaviour during a dance program. The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Sakaddi village under Koilwar police station. Rajesh Kumar (38), the bride's brother and a serving Havildar in the Indian Army stationed in Rajouri sector, Jammu & Kashmir, was injured in the attack.

The festivities took a violent turn during the barat (wedding procession), which included a dance performance by hired performers. As dancers entertained the crowd, a group of miscreants climbed onto the stage, harassing the performers and firing shots into the air. When Rajesh intervened to stop their misconduct, the situation escalated, and the men opened fire on him.

Soldier injured, accused flee scene

Rajesh sustained a gunshot wound near his right elbow. He was rushed to Ara Sadar Hospital and later referred to Patna for advanced treatment. According to eyewitnesses, Saroj Kumar, a local resident, and his 8-10 accomplices are suspected of initiating the attack. The group reportedly fired 20-25 rounds before fleeing the scene.

Panic and police action

The gunfire caused panic and a stampede among the wedding attendees. Police, led by station in-charge Narottam Chandra, arrived promptly after being informed of the incident. An investigation is underway to apprehend the culprits.
