US Embassy's Diwali celebration: US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, has once again captivated audiences with his infectious energy and Bollywood dance skills during the Diwali festivities held at the US Embassy in New Delhi. In a vibrant display of cultural appreciation, Garcetti danced to the popular song “Tauba Tauba” from the film Bad Newz, featuring actor Vicky Kaushal. Clad in a traditional brown kurta and stylish sunglasses, the 53-year-old ambassador has embraced Indian culture since his appointment, making a name for himself through such lively performances.

Garcetti’s previous dance triumphs

This year’s Diwali celebration was not Garcetti's first foray into Bollywood dance. His previous performance during the 2022 Diwali event, where he showcased his moves to “Chaiyya Chaiyya,” was widely shared and praised on social media. This continuous celebration of Indian culture not only endears him to the local populace but also strengthens diplomatic ties by reflecting the spirit of cultural exchange.

"Wow, his dance skills are amazing," remarked one delighted viewer, while another commented, "Too good!" The ambassador's willingness to immerse himself in local traditions underscores the significance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations.

Biden’s Diwali celebration at the White House

Simultaneously, President Joe Biden hosted a grand Diwali event at the White House, bringing together over 600 prominent Indian Americans, including Congress members, officials, and corporate leaders. This celebration highlighted the contributions of the Indian American community to the fabric of American society. Notably, astronaut Sunita Williams joined the event virtually from the International Space Station, showcasing the diverse representation of Indian Americans in various fields. Garcetti took to social media to describe the Diwali festivities as “beautiful,” emphasizing the importance of this festival in honoring the enduring bonds between India and the United States.

A celebration of light and unity

As Diwali symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, both Garcetti's spirited dance and Biden's White House event illuminate the strengthening of US-India ties. The ambassador’s enthusiasm and the president’s recognition of the Indian American community reflect a mutual respect and appreciation for cultural diversity, serving as a reminder that such celebrations transcend borders and foster unity.
