A horrific incident has been reported from Bihar’s Araria district where some angry villagers put the police station on fire after a man and his minor wife allegedly committed suicide in police custody. The incident has initiated an outrage among the people.

The incident happened after the man married his 14-year-old minor sister-in-law soon after the death of his wife. They both got detained by police on Thursday as the girl was underage, which is illegal in India. The angry mob has alleged that they died after the police officials beat them up while being in custody.

According to the sources, the CCTV footage that has surfaced, apparently of the police lockup, shows a man hanging himself with a cloth in the lockup.

Soon after the news of their death surfaced among the people of the village, they vandalized the Tarabari police station and set it on fire, resulting in injuries to five police officials. Locals continued to protest and raised slogans against police due to their negligence.

However, the official statement on the incident is still awaited.
