Jammu & Kashmir: In the early hours, a gunfight broke out in the Khanyar area of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, as security forces launched an operation to neutralise a suspected militant believed to be holed up in the vicinity. According to media sources, the operation, involving the Quick Action Team (QAT) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), began late last night under heightened security measures.

The operation reportedly began as part of a joint effort between CRPF’s specialised QAT unit and JKP’s SOG team following credible intelligence regarding the presence of a militant in the Khanyar area. Sources indicate that a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was put in place to restrict movement in and around the area as forces closed in on the suspect’s location.
Gunfire erupted between the security personnel and the suspected militant in the early hours, with sporadic shots exchanged as the forces attempted to neutralise the threat. The surrounding area has been secured, and the presence of additional security personnel has been heightened to ensure public safety as the encounter progresses.
