New Delhi: In a resolute address amid escalating concerns over crimes against women, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday delivered a strong message, vowing that those responsible for such heinous acts "will not be spared." Speaking at the Lakhpati Didi event in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, PM Modi confronted the growing nationwide outrage over recent cases, including the brutal rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata, the disturbing school sex abuse case in Badlapur, and the horrific gangrape in Assam.

He denounced crimes against women as an "unforgivable sin" and emphasized the collective responsibility of society and the government to protect the safety and dignity of women.

Strengthening legal frameworks for women's safety

The Prime Minister highlighted the government's commitment to strengthening legal frameworks and enforcement mechanisms to combat crimes against women. He spoke of amendments to existing laws and the introduction of new systems designed to make justice more accessible to victims. “Earlier, there were complaints that FIRs were not filed. We brought the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and made a lot of amendments,” he said. He also introduced the option for women to file e-FIRs, ensuring that no one can tamper with or alter their complaints.

Decade of progress for women's empowerment

In a passionate statement, the Prime Minister challenged the nation to compare the achievements of his government over the past decade with those of previous administrations. "Keep the seven decades of previous governments on one side and put 10 years of the Modi government on the other scale... The amount of work that the Modi government has done for the sisters and daughters of the country, no government has done after Independence," he asserted.

Empowering women through Lakhpati Didi initiative

During his visit to Jalgaon, PM Modi interacted with 'Lakhpati Didis,' women members of self-help groups who have achieved an annual income of Rs 1 lakh. He felicitated 11 lakh new Lakhpati Didis and disbursed bank loans totaling Rs 5,000 crore, benefiting 25.8 lakh members of 2.35 lakh self-help groups (SHGs). Since the inception of the Lakhpati Didi scheme, one crore women have joined the initiative, with the government aiming to make 3 crore women Lakhpati Didis.

Praising the Eknath Shinde-led government's efforts to empower women and foster economic growth, PM Modi remarked, "Mahayuti government means a government for development."
