PV Sathayanthan, 62, the central local committee secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for Koyilandy town, was brutally attacked on Thursday, February 22, at approximately 10 PM when he was attending the celebration at the Perivattur Cheriyapuram temple in the town.

Sathyanathan was immediately taken to the Taluk Hospital in Koyilandy after suffering more than four injuries, including one on his neck that was thought to be caused by an axe. However, he passed dead en route.

According to the police officials, the accused, a 30-year-old man named Abhilash, turned himself in at the station. Initial inquiries indicate that a personal rivalry may have motivated the attack.
