Covid-19 Update: India's Covid-19 situation remains stable, with an active caseload of 1,828 as of Monday. Despite one reported death in Kerala, attributed to the JN.1 subvariant, Dr NK Arora, the chief of INSACOG, reassured the public that the fatality resulted from multiple underlying health conditions, not solely the subvariant.

No Cause for Panic, Says INSACOG Chief

Dr Arora highlightEd that there was "no cause for panic" regarding the JN.1 subvariant. While the number of samples is limited, they are collected from across all states. INSACOG continues to closely monitor the situation, studying the virus's epidemiology and clinical behaviour.

JN.1 Subvariant Case Details

Dr Rajiv Bahl, Director General of ICMR, confirms the detection of the JN.1 subvariant in Kerala during routine surveillance by INSACOG. The patient, testing RT-PCR positive on November 18, 2023, and recovering from Covid-19, had mild symptoms of influenza-like illness.

WHO Urges Vigilance

In response to the evolving virus and the new JN.1 subvariant, the World Health Organisation (WHO) stresses the importance of strong surveillance and sequence sharing. With respiratory diseases on the rise, the global body encourages member states to remain vigilant.
