The Union Health minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya today chaired a review meeting with health ministers of all the states and union territories through video conferencing. Earlier in the day, before attending the meeting Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar said that the Centre has been regularly issuing guidelines to all the states and the union territories amid a nationwide surge in Covid-19 cases.According to the latest updates by the Union Ministry, India has seen as many as 6,050 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, making a significant jump from Thursdays tally of 5,335 cases. Covid cases in the country have seen an upward trend in the past few days. 2,994 cases were reported on April 1, 3,824 cases on April 2, 3,641 cases on April 3, 3,038 cases on April 4, and 4,435 cases on April 5. Indias active dashboard stands at 28,303 cases, as per an update by the health ministry.The objective of the new review meeting was to take consent on the situation in the rise of covid cases in the country and to access the preparedness of the healthcare facilities to deal with the situation. Along with all the state and UT ministers, the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) also attended the meeting.The union minister Mandaviya after the meeting said, “We need to be alert but there is no need to worry. Currently, the sub-variant Omicron, which is circulating in the country, has not led to an increase in the rate of hospitalisation.” The weekly positivity rate currently stands at 3.02 percent, as per the latest data.Virtual Hearing in Supreme Court amid Covid-19The chief justice of India, DY Chandrachud on Wednesday said lawyers that they are free to appear virtually and need not be in courts. The decision has been taken due to rise in the Covid-19 cases in the country. The apex court and the Supreme Court have also started live-streaming the Constitution bench proceedings through the Supreme Court app. The courts are now successfully experimenting the physical and virtual hearings for quite some time now.Count of Covid-19 cases in the countryAccording to data published on Friday by the Union health ministry, India has recorded 6,050 new coronavirus infections, the highest number in 203 days, while the number of active cases has grown to 28,303. In September of last year, there were 6,298 cases reported.A total of 14 deaths have been recorded, bringing the death toll to 5,30,943 three deaths were reported from Maharashtra, two from Karnataka, one from Rajasthan, one from each of Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Punjab, and one death was reconciled by Kerala. According to the statement, the weekly positivity rate is 3.02 percent and the daily positivity rate is 3.39 percent.As of now, 4.47 crore cases of Covid have been reported in total. According to the website of the health ministry, the proportion of active cases is currently 0.6 percent of all infections, and the national Covid recovery rate is 98.75 percent.According to the report, there are now 4,41,85,858 persons who have recovered from the illness, and the case fatality rate is now 1.19 percent. The website of the ministry reports that the statewide Covid vaccination campaign has so far administered 220.66 crore doses of the vaccine.The clinical guidance by the governmentAccording to the National Task Force, antibiotics should not be used unless there is clinical suspicion of bacterial infection. In the latest advisory, there is a list of certain drugs which should not be used in Covid-19. People are also advised to wear a mask in public places and maintain social distancing.
