Amid the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has intensified his criticism of the Nehru-Gandhi family, accusing them of repeatedly violating the Constitution. Modi asserted that four members of the family have tampered with the Constitution, warning that such actions will not be tolerated.
In an interview with India Today, Prime Minister Modi detailed the alleged constitutional infractions committed by Jawaharlal Nehru and Rahul Gandhi. He highlighted that no other family in India has tampered with the Constitution as extensively as the Nehru-Gandhi family. Modi went as far as describing the Manmohan Singh government as a "remote controlled" administration.
"Who was the first to amend the Constitution in India?" questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Pandit Nehru did it. He made the first constitutional amendment, restricting freedom of expression, which was against democracy."
Modi continued, "His daughter also violated the Constitution. The court ruled that she could not remain an MP, but she reversed the order by declaring an emergency, resulting in the closure of 800 newspapers."
"Following her, her sons came into power. In the case of Shah Bano, he reversed the Supreme Court's decision and amended the Constitution. Subsequently, they introduced a law to restrict the media," said Prime Minister Modi. "The opposition in the country became stronger, stating that they would not allow another emergency to be imposed."
"Then came his sons who governed via remote control. They were the Prime Ministers of the remote controlled government," he said.
"The government was formed under the Constitution, and the cabinet made a decision. A prince violated the cabinet's decision, leading to its withdrawal. This means that four members of the same family violated the Constitution at different times," Modi asserted.
"I firmly declare that until the spirit of the Constitution is upheld, reservations will not be given on the basis of religion. You divided the country on religious grounds for your own benefit. Educate your country; I will sacrifice my life for it," concluded Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
