Almost three months after defecting to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the eve of the significant Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) mayoral elections, Bawana municipal councillor Pawan Sehrawat has decided to rejoin the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Prior to his departure, Sehrawat, who had won the election from Ward 30 Bawana as an AAP candidate, had levelled allegations of corruption against AAP leaders and expressed a sense of being “suffocated.”

On Sunday, he officially rejoined the party in the presence of Durgesh Pathak, the AAP MLA and MCD in-charge.

According to a statement issued by the party, “Sehrawat had initially left the AAP and joined the BJP due to certain misunderstandings. However, after resolving these misunderstandings at the organisational level, he has made the choice to return to the AAP.”

During a press conference, Sehrawat stated, “I have reunited with my political family. I am committed to working towards making Delhi a modern and advanced capital city.” It should be noted that the anti-defection law does not apply to elected representatives in municipal polls.

Prior to the mayoral elections in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Sehrawat, along with an independent candidate, had joined the BJP. The AAP had secured 134 seats, while the BJP had 104 seats.

Responding to Sehrawat’s return to the AAP, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor stated, “AAP councillor Pawan Sehrawat voluntarily came to our office and joined our party, showing confidence in our ideology. If he has now chosen to go back to AAP, it is his personal decision. His credibility has been compromised by switching parties twice within a span of seven weeks.”
